Milford Haven Pipeline Archaeology - Illustrated Talk (22nd June 2016)

The Society has been contacted by the Brecon Beacons Park Society with information on their upcoming talk about recent archaeological finds made during the construction of the gas pipeline from Milford Haven. Details are included below and more can be found on their website.

"[On 22nd June] we shall be able to hear about the remarkable archaeological finds along the route of the gas pipeline which was constructed nine years ago to bring gas from the port at Milford Haven into the national supply system...The Park Society was especially involved in opposition and then damage limitation where the route passes through the open moorland of Mynydd Myddfai and Mynydd Bach Trecastell.
The meeting for this illustrated talk will be at 7.30pm next Wednesday 22nd June at The Bear Hotel in Crickhowell.
The archaeological surveys before and during the pipeline construction revealed dramatically more occupation of the land in pre-historic times than had previously been believed.  Jon Hart, Senior Publications Officer of Cotswold Archaeology, will be telling us about the
evidence which has been uncovered through the ages from hunter-gatherers and early farmers to iron age settlements and Roman roads.
Numerous papers have been published in archaeological journals but it is only now that the findings are being pulled together for general publication to a wider public.  We are privileged to be given this preview in the talk by Jon Hart which should be of interest to all with an interest in our ancient heritage.
