Archaeology at the Walled Garden, Abergwili - 6th-17th March 2017

The Society has been informed that the Dyfed Archaeological Trust is about to began work at the Walled Garden site in Abergwili, Carmarthenshire. The Trust is open to volunteers to help them on this dig - details can be found in the leaflet below.

Society of Antiquaries of London - Cardiff Meeting on 2nd March 2017

The Society, members and interested parties have been invitied to the following special event being held in the Main Building of Cardiff University on Thursday 2nd March 2017

Tea will be served in the 'restaurant of the Main Building, Park Place (where we normally meet, opposite the Student's Union building) at 4.45 p.m.

The meeting will then be held in the Wallace Lecture Theatre, within the same building , and is a full Society of Antiquaries meeting, attended by the President and General Secretary of the Society, with an opportunity for Fellows to be formally admitted.

It will start with the normal formalities at 5.45 and the lecture should begin at 6.00 p.m. It is being given by Professor Paul Nicholson and Dr. Steve Mills (both of Cardiff University and Fellows of the Society of Antiquaries of London) and is on 'Visions of Antiquity - Imaging Egypt and Palestine in the First World War'.

Members will note that Professor Nicholson will be speaking to CAS the week before, but on a completely different subject, and that Dr. Mills gave a memorable lecture to the Society in 2013 on Auditory Archaeology at Catalhoyuk.

Following the lecture and questions there will be a wine reception; again in the restaurant, until 800 p.m.

Carmarthenshire Antiquarian Society Day School - 18th February 2017

The Camarthenshire Antiquarian Society is hosting a day school, entitled "Life in the medieval castles of West Wales in peace and War" - on 18th February 2017. The event takes place at the Halliwell Centre in Trinity St. David in Carmarthen, and costs £12.00 (with an additional £8.00 for lunch).

CAS Committee Member and illustrator Chris Jones-Jenkins is taking part in this day school, hosting a seminar on 'Reconstructing the Past'.
